Lino Cut Print

Lino Cut Print

This is a lino cut print I did for one of my Charettes.

It was based on the marginalised and oppressed Native American population in the United States. The visual consists of everything that is symbolic of the community; their headcrown, scars due to a rough lifestyle, their eagle, leaves mandala and much more!  The colour red, is symbolic of all that they have lost or sacrificed in the course of their lives and the poem is also written keeping in mind the suppression they are subjected to till the very date.

I have added pictures (procured from Google) of the tools used for lino carving and the sheet that is used for the same. I used a standard oil based ink for this and printed 4-5 drafts till i got a perfect one.

THE POEM
We, unlike you, are the indigenous Americans
Look at you denying education to us Barbarians
For no reason I suffered a foreign ailment
Only choice for me was to relocate and remain silent
A nation born out of genocide and bloodshed
How do I expect anything to be better ahead?
