Carry Kitchen: Compact Kitchen Space for Construction Workers

PROJECT BRIEF: The migrant construction worker community is the invisible backbone of the construction industry and the rapidly urbanizing landscape. The community is diverse in culture, ethnography and demographics and poses unique challenges that are verycontextual and specific to their environment. We were suppposed to identify a construction site and a community within, that providesenough scope for a thorough study and propose innovative human-centric solutions in the form of products, systems orservices while considering environmental impact and sustainability in use of materials.
 
PROBLEM STATEMENT: It's necessary to understand what the space around the construction workers means to them and how the space impacts their mental and physical health? How does their cooking space affect their work life and vice versa? There are difficulties in cooking due tolack of proper apparatus and facilities. Thus, the area of work shortlisted is shelter-safety by providing ERGONOMIC KITCHEN SOLUTIONSwhich debug their work life and help them stay fitter, happier, safer and healthier.
 
LARGER GOAL OF THE PROJECT: Provide physical comfort (healthier bodies) and mental security (psychological safety) to the workers and their families due to bettercooking conditions and positionsEventually provide financial security (if certain facilities are introduced, work quality is likely to increase; providing higher income in thelong run).
 
FINAL SOLUTION: My final solution is an attempt to create a KITCHEN SOLUTION that is ergonomically advanced and aids in removing all possible factors in physical health deterioration. The common issues faced by the users of a simple mud chulha are addressed in this design, which are: Back problems, Knee pain, Foot pain, Hip pain and Respiratory Issues.
