BOOK: The Material Library
I had made a book for one of my Design Charettes, which was a sort of pocket library. It consisted of details like; What is material? What is prototyping? What are som prototyping materials (Clay, M-Seal, Paper, Cardboard, Sunboard, Muslin Cloth, Thermocol) and finally, I categorised materials and gave briefly explained their subtypes and their uses:
- Wood (Hard, Soft, Engineered)
- Metals (Ferrous, Non-Ferrous and Alloys)
- Stone (Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic)
- Cloth & Textile (Natural and Manmade)
- Leather (Full, Top, Corrected and Bonded)
- Plastic (PETE, HDPE, PVC, PP, PS Other)
- Glass (Float, Toughened, Patterned, Laminated)
- Clay (Earthenware, Stoneware and Porcelin)
- Cardboard (Corrugated, Mat, Paper based)
There were quick and short details on each material and subcategory. The aim was to curate a quick refrence book for future designers who can glance through it to look for quick advantages and disadvantages and apt uses of the respective material.
